Jeffrey Liebenguth

Jeff Liebenguth is a retired Marine Corps Judge Advocate and former enlisted member of the United States Coast Guard.

Jeff Liebenguth is a retired Marine Corps Judge Advocate and former enlisted member of the United States Coast Guard.  He is a graduate of Amherst College, Emory University School of Law, and the Marine Corps University Resident Command & Staff College, where he received a Master’s Degree in Military Studies.

In 2003, he deployed with 2d Battalion, 3d Marines—“Island Warriors”—to Haditha, Iraq, with a follow-on assignment at the Pentagon.  Jeff has taught military law at the United State Naval Academy and spoken at military criminal-law conferences in California and Washington, D.C.

Because of his success, in 2011 Jeff was recognized as the “Silver C.A.A.F. Tongue” award winner for arguing more cases before the military appellate courts than any other appellate defense counsel.  He was also a 2010 nominee for the Office of the Judge Advocate General Headquarters Legal Excellence Award for Military Justice.

As a defense counsel and prosecutor, Jeff has litigated an impressive spectrum of felony-level cases, including but not limited to: murder, attempted murder, rape, sexual assault, assault and battery, burglary, child endangerment, fraud, and drug use, possession, and distribution.  He also has vast experience with military-specific offenses and punitive administrative matters such as fraternization, orders violations, unauthorized absence, non-judicial punishment (NJP), Boards of Inquiry (BOI), and Administrative Separation Boards.

Jeff has been accepted for publication on a wide range of military topics, including alcohol-related sexual assault and the Service Members’ Civil Relief Act.  His professional affiliations and licensing include the Supreme Court of the United States, the Court of Appeals of the Armed Forces, the Navy-Marine Corps Court of Criminal Appeals, the Hawaii State Bar Association, and the District of Columbia Bar Association.
