Katherine Sears
Katherine has been described as “annoying but effective” and will readily play an endurance game of “but what about?” with the prosecution on your behalf. She focuses first on issues that could kill a case in the cradle – evidentiary deficiencies in charging documents, unlawful searches and seizures, unfairly suggestive suspect “lineups,” and more. If dismissal is out of reach, she’ll help you weigh the costs and potential benefits of trial against any available plea offers.
Whether she’s arguing that Iowa’s harassment statute is unconstitutionally overbroad or that an officer’s demand for roadside sobriety testing represents a warrantless seizure, Katherine is willing to develop and pursue novel legal arguments on her clients' behalves.
Katie participated in Drake University Law School’s Criminal Defense Clinic and Advanced Criminal Defense Clinic in 2016-2017. She graduated in 2017 with a certificate in Prosecution and Defense.
Katherine has a particular interest in defending drug and prostitution charges. In 2020-2021, Super Lawyers selected Katie Sears to their "Rising Stars" list.
