Mary Kay Hansen
Mary Kay’s practice focuses on the mediation of family law matters throughout Nebraska, including: divorce, parenting plans, custody, alimony, paternity, child support, will disputes, and guardianships. Recognizing the destructive nature of litigation, Mary Kay focuses on resolving matters without the need for Court intervention. Mary Kay has been approved by the Office of Dispute Resolution as a Parenting Act mediator and as a Specialized Alternative Dispute Resolution mediator, which allows her to provide services in cases involving domestic abuse. Mary Kay assists couples who want to file for a “do-it-yourself,” or an amicable divorce. Mary Kay recommends obtaining legal and financial guidance and advice as needed, as that is outside the mediator’s role.
Mary Kay represents clients, who due to accident, illness, or mental health challenges, are unable to maintain long-term employment. Mary Kay assists clients who have applied for Social Security Disability Insurance Benefits.
In addition, Mary Kay serves as special counsel to the Academic Rights and Responsibilities Committees at the University of Nebraska and serves as general counsel for Region II Mental Health Services. Currently, Mary Kay serves on the Nebraska Supreme Court’s Office of Dispute Resolution’s Advisory Council.
