Steve Jeffery has over 35 years of experience in environmental law and environmental litigation matters. He is listed in ChambersUSA®, Best Lawyers in America® and Missouri/Kansas Superlawyers.® He was named by Best Lawyers in America® as the 2023 St. Louis "Lawyer of the Year" for Litigation-Environmental and the 2014 St. Louis "Lawyer of the Year" for Environmental Law. In 2022, Missouri Lawyers Weekly® included Steve on the "Power List" for Environmental and Energy Law Attorneys in Missouri.
Steve's practice includes litigation, regulatory compliance and transactional matters, as well as representation before State and Federal regulatory agencies. He has argued several environmental cases before the Missouri Supreme Court and all three Missouri Courts of Appeal. Also, he is a frequent speaker on environmental topics.
From 1987 to 1993, Steve served as the General Counsel for the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, where he was responsible for legal review of policy, enforcement, legislative and regulatory issues. At DNR, Steve was involved in several major matters including the cleanup of the Times Beach Superfund site, the development of the 200-mile KATY Trail State Park, and the development of Missouri’s Title V air operating permit program.
From 1981 to 1987, Steve served on active duty with the U. S. Navy. In 1984 - 1985, he served as a Special Assistant U. S. Attorney in the Southern District of Texas. He retired from the Navy Reserve at the rank of Commander in 2004 with 23 years of service.
Steve received his BSPA, MPA, and JD from the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri.
